Jazz Tap Center

Jazz Tap Center is a small business I worked for six years. Jazz Tap Center is an umbrella company for “Miller and Ben Tap Shoes”, which constructs tap shoes, “Tap Emporium”, which sells shoes, complementary apparel, and other merchandise, and “The Big Apple Tap Festival” (formerly “Tradition In Tap”), which used to host annual festivals that connected aspiring tap dancers with established performers in the field of tap dance and beyond.

Jazz Tap Center was established many years before I became its graphic designer, so there was already a design aesthetic in place. I was urged to keep this aesthetic while working on their catalogs, posters, letters, and other print pieces. I also worked on maintaining and updating their websites, which were created around 2003. On top of that, I also photographed their shoes and products, which I would later upload onto their website.

Various promotional materials that I’ve worked on, mostly done before 2014 (Going clockwise: A magazine ad, an end-of-year holiday letter, a few posters, a catalog, a promotional letter advertising a tap festival).

About a year into working at Jazz Tap Center, I learned that their festival would be revamped and renamed “The Big Apple Tap Festival”. I was asked to create a new logo, and after dozens and dozens of designs, we decided on the final logo (the shoes were designed by a previous associate of the business). As expected, the logo appeared in numerous places; on the website, on clothing, on YouTube cover images, and so on.

I helped set up a few social media accounts for this business: A Facebook business account, a Twitter account, and a YouTube account. Other miscellaneous tasks included creating new online forms with Jotform Online Form Builder, creating new order forms with Foxit PDF Creator, and setting up their Amazon account.

In the mid-2010’s I needed to learn video editing in support of their festivals. After exploring Pinnacle Studio Video Editor a little bit, I learned how to create professional and engaging content for their business.

Posting videos onto Jazz Tap Center’s YouTube account involved creating a cover image in Photoshop and occasionally editing videos together into a montage using Pinnacle Studio.

I created content for several posts on their social media accounts. Examples include polls, promo sales, and news about Amazon, as seen below.
